Jump Youth Group
Our Parish Youth group "JUMP" (Jesus Use My Potential) gives young people the opportunity to meet fortnightly during term time to enjoy fun games, bible discussion and outings. Additionally once a year JUMP enjoy a weekend away in the Lake District.
In addition to joining "JUMP" our young people are valuable members of church involved in communion, operating the sound desk, helping with Children's Church, 4th Sunday and Messy Church.

Autumn 2023/ Spring 2024
As the nights drew in while we continued meeting on 1st and 3rd Sundays our "out and about" evenings were more "indoors" including Bell Ringing, Christmas party and other activities interspersed with our bible based sessions.
The images on the right are from our Christmas party and one of our "bible based" sessions in the spring.
If you are interested in finding out more about JUMP please contact Christina or Robert on jumpyouthgroup@gmail.com
Summer 2023
Over the Summer term we continued meeting on 1st and 3rd Sundays and enjoyed many evenings back outdoors.
The images on the right are from our canoeing adventure on Derwentwater.
If you are interested in finding out more about JUMP please contact Robert on jumpyouthgroup@gmail.com
Spring 2023
During Spring we continued to meet fortnightly and were back outdoors more with fun around the town and further afield. Once a month we were "out and about" and a fortnight later we are in the church rooms for a bible based session. The images on the right are from a recent litter pick and "Cockermouth Facts" hunt.
JUMP will restart in September and anyone Yr7-Yr 13 (Senior School/ College) is most welcome to join us. For more details please contact Robert on jumpyouthgroup@gmail.com
Autumn 2022
From September we changed the format slightly, while still meeting fortnightly on Sunday evenings each month we had an “out and about” JUMP session and a bible based session continuing to look at the same readings as the church service, in the church rooms.
The out and about sessions were all about helping the young people get to know each other whist also having fun and learning new things, these evenings included Bushcraft (video on the right) to Bell ringing at All Saints (video also on the right), a tour of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue, a scavenger hunt in Harris Park and a walk up Ling Fell.
As we return in 2023 we will be starting to prepare for our weekend away at St John's in the Vale in April while continuing the same format of meeting fortnightly with one session each month being an activity of some form and the other bible based.
Summer 2022
Our summer term started off with our usual fortnightly sessions in the church rooms, continuing to explore the topics covered in the main church services.
In June and July as the weather improved we had a number of outside activities, including cannoning on Derwent water, a scavenger hunt in Harris Park and a walk up Ling Fell.
The video shows (at speed) everyone returning to shore after a great evening from one of our evenings on the lake.
JUMP returns on Sunday September 12th and this term every month will include some form of "field trip"/ adventure as well as our normal sessions from 19:00-20:30 Sunday evenings fortnightly.
If you know anyone currently year 7-13 (11-18 yrs) who may be interested in joining JUMP please do encourage them to get in touch via jumpyouthgroup@gmail.com
Spring 2022
As we returned from Christmas we initially returned to zoom while the Covid levels were a bit higher and also it was so dark and cold.
But before long we were back in the Church Rooms in person for great fun together every fortnight.
We tended to explore the same theme as the mornings readings at church but through a lot of fun activities from creating our own hills (well through contour lines) to explore our lives, to planting sunflowers and painting stones.
We also had some really powerful reflections including one where we explored all our senses which included eating Chocolate (of course), feeling the texture of a pocket cross, and breathing in a spring scented air freshener.
Away Day November 2021
In November we had a great day away, 20 months later than initially planned, to St John's in the Vale. The weekend lockdown started in March 2020 we were due to be away together, but after three reschedules we were delighted to be able to spend a day away together in such a beautiful place.
The theme of our day was identity and we looked at words we use to identify ourselves and then what God says about our identity. Next term we will be looking at the film Overcomer and we used a section from the film to look at who God says we are. You can watch that segment here. If you have not watched this film here is a trailer it is a very powerful film well worth watching.
In between our sessions studying this theme we climbed a hill, made Pizzas, played a myriad of games, went on a night walk, built structures out of newspaper among much more. Not sure how we achieved so much in 12hrs together but we all had an awesome day together.
Hopefully in the spring we can arrange more away days together which everyone can come too and hopefully soon do whole weekends away together again- these times together are extremely valuable and highly enjoyable.
We also learnt a new song called "Who You Say I am" which you can watch on YouTube here
Autumn 2021
As we start the new school year, we are also starting to meet in person again as JUMP- Yippee.
The attached letter provides more information about JUMP this term and our plans including hopefully our weekend away in November which is one of the highlights of our year which sadly we have not been able to have for the last 2 years.
If you or someone you know may be interested in joining us at JUMP, please do get in touch via jumpyouthgroup@gmail.com
Our start of term letter to all JUMP members and parents can be found here
Summer 2021
It is Summer 2021 and we have finally been able to be together "in person" outdoors after over a year of meeting every fortnight (including through holidays) on Zoom.
While meeting on Zoom has been wonderful to keep connected and to explore our faith together, for our young people there is nothing quite like being together in person.
As you can see from the pictures on the right we had great fun at the end of May at Crummock including, scavenger hunt art, paper boat building & racing and a picnic.
Spring 2021
As we start 2021 and we remain meeting virtually, we are using the Youth Wellbeing journey a taster of which is shown on the right.
The Youth Wellbeing Journey is by young people for young people! They have created a video series to run in tandem with the series for adults, to help young people go on the same Wellbeing Journey. Filmed from the perspective of four young people, we are excited that JUMP can join them and discover more of God’s plan for their own wellbeing.
Every episode is a journey. There is a journey to a physical location; a journey to overcome challenges and a journey through content, all based around the six areas of wellbeing: physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, financial, and vocational wellbeing.
Each of the young people faces a series of challenges as they go on their Wellbeing Journey.
2020
2020 started off meeting in person fortnightly for evenings much like the last few years of fun while exploring the Christian Faith.
On Easter Sunday we held our First Zoom JUMP and we continued meeting every fortnight all year including through holidays.
Initially the sessions were fairly quiet but as the JUMPers have gained confidence in using Zoom by the summer we were having actively discussions while fully utilising the varied functions of Zoom and finding out more about some of the artifacts people have in their homes as scavenger hunts became a regular start to our sessions.
The first video on the right is two of our JUMP members chatting with Ann Peate one of our JUMP leaders during lockdown.
The second video is called Looking to the Rainbow and includes many members of JUMP. This video of passing a heart is showing how we are all part of one family and all loved while we are in lockdown.
Autumn 2019
We welcomed a number of new members as the school year started. Our first activity of the term was bowling at which great fun was had by all.
Over the term, up until Christmas, we focused on Moses life looking a stage each week from the "Moses basket" in the Bull rushes in the Nile to parting the red sea and the promised land.
This was a great way to focus on the life of such a prominent character of the old testament which we often only know snippets of.
The term ended with a very entertaining Christmas party including some wrapped up human Christmas presents...
Following on from the Autumn term and Moses, during the Spring term we are focusing on Jesus and the theme of blessings.
Summer 2019
Over the summer term we had a more chilled time at JUMP with pressures of exams for a number of our JUMPers.
We focused on skills to help us in our Christian faith including navigating some bible stories and exploring different ways of praying.
Evening topics included "Prayer and our relationship with God", "The Lords Prayer unpacked!" and "An explore of prayer through walking!".
We also had a day out to Mabie Farm park which was great fun and a number of our JUMPers went to the Cumbria Christian Youth Camp @Keswick during the summer holidays.
We had a great term together and look forward VERY much to next term when we will be looking at Moses, whose story is pivotal in God’s plan and over the autumn term we will find out how.
Spring 2019
Over this term we continued the film series looking at what it means to be a Christian which initiated great discussion and times of reflection.
The highlight of the term was our weekend away to St Johns in the Vale at the end of April this was a great weekend which 6 of our younger JUMPers attended (our older JUMPers were studying hard for exams but we thought about them a lot during our activities).
Over the weekend we focused on "The Bible" including looking at how the Old Testament and New Testament link through various activities from our "Video Challenge" to treasure hunts to Pizza making amongst many other activities. A great time had by all.
Autumn 2018
We started our term with a great evening with Canon Andrew White "The vicar of Baghdad" it was great to hear of the work Canon White has undertaken as part of the only Anglican church in Iraq. Canon White also spoke at the morning Service which can be watched here.
This led into a film series we used to study some questions about our faith including:
Jesus Fact or Fiction?
What was Jesus really like?
How can you say that God is good?
Has the Church caused more harm than good?
We are continuing this film series in our Spring 2019 programme.
We also had a great "Question time evening" with the Cumbria Police Commissioner Peter McCall where we asked questions about how his Christian Faith and job align.
Spring Summer 2018
Spring and Summer Term involved a lot of being outside, we were blessed with amazing weather, where better to be thinking about our faith than outside.
During Spring we had some great evenings studying bible passages together with evening titles including:
Total turn around! Acts 9
A stormy ride! Acts 27
‘Are they drunk?!’ exploring Pentecost Acts 2
‘Walking with a Stranger’ Luke 24
‘Empowered’ Various Acts
We finished our term with a great evening out at Crummock Water having a BBQ together and reflecting on the "picnic on the beach- Breakfast with Jesus" where great fun was had as well as reflecting on the told in John 21.
Water Sport Day
In June 2018 JUMP had a great day on Ennerdale doing a variety of Water Sports with other Church Youth Groups from around West Cumbria.
By the end of the day everyone had fallen in to the lake but everyone had beaming smiles.
In the evening after a BBQ, a small service was held around a fire.
Visit by Swedish Bible School Students.
In Mid April 2018 we enjoyed a great evening with visitors from Sweden's Word of Life Bible College based in Upsala.
The students led a very moving evening of worship, testimony and prayer.
Weekend away to Rydal February 2018
In February JUMP had a great weekend at Rydal Hall where much fun, fellowship and food was shared.
We had great weather and as you can see it really was an amazing time.
Please take a look at the videos we made during our weekend.

Autumn and Winter of 2017-2018
During the Autumn and Winter most JUMP sessions were held indoors based on the cold dark evenings, we still had great fun including a night bowling, an evening thinking about remembrance day and many evenings involving acting or games of some form.
Three of our members head off to University July 2017
At the end of July we enjoyed a great evening led by three of our older members of JUMP who headed off to university in September.
JUMP outing with Wonder Network Youth Church to Ennerdale
A great day was had in June around Ennerdale including canoeing on the lake, archery, team challenges and sharing in Worship.
Christian Aid Evening
As part of Christian Aid Week's 60th anniversary, we had a powerful evening learning about refugees and playing a board game where we had different situations and challenges to face as refugees trying to get to a safe place.
A great evening learning about Christian Aid and the work they undertake.
Safeguarding
The welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults is an absolute priority for us. Safeguarding shows God's love in action and in churches demonstrates safety and security, where abuse and mistreatment of others is not tolerated.
The Cockermouth Area Team is signed up to and abides by the Church of England Policy on Safeguarding and Carlisle Diocese Safeguarding Policy
Each of our churches has a Safeguarding Officer. For more information and who to contact if you are concerned that someone you know about may be suffering harm please visit our Safeguarding page.
